In February 2011 Syfy announced plans to produce Among the Spirits, a dramatic "steampunk" series featuring Houdini and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle solving mysteries in the 1920s. The announcement received a lot of press, but then all went quite. Now my spirit guide tells me the series has moved to NBC.
Among the Spirits is being written and produced by Steve Valentine and Paul Chart. It's reportedly based on a graphic novel of the same name (although I've never been able to track down a copy).
In the same month that the Among the Spirits/Syfy deal was announced, DreamWorks announced a Houdini-Doyle mash-up film project called Voices from the Dead written by J. Michael Straczynski. No word from my spirit guide on whether that project is still active.
Have you asked the eight ball?
