
According to the program notes, "Lauren Kroiz will locate Houdini’s magic within its turn-of-the-century Progressive-era context and examine the notion of miraculous self-liberation as a defining element of American identity for Houdini’s audiences then and contemporary artists now. Kroiz is an assistant professor of art history at the University of Wisconsin-Madison."
Houdini Art and Magic will be on show at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art through May 13, 2012. This is exhibition's final stop in a tour which has included New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
