Before she was "Margery"

Here is a wonderful never-before-published family photograph of Mina Stinson (Rand) in 1914. This was several years before her marriage to Dr. Le Roi Crandon and before she became "Margery the Medium." This comes from the private collection of Anna Thurlow, the great granddaughter of Margery. The baby is Anna's grandfather. It's a beautiful photo taken during what was certainly less complicated times for Mina.

By the way, in talking with Anna about the recent Mysteries at the Museum Margery segment, I was surprised to learn that Mina pronounced her name as "My-na," not "Mee-na." I admit I've been pronouncing it wrong all these years, as have most others. "You are among the 5 people left living who know the correct pronunciation," joked Anna.

Now we all know.

Thanks as always to Anna Thurlow for sharing her family treasures. For more artifacts from the Libbet Crandon de Malmud Collection revisit The Margery Files.

  2. My friend Rumina Murphy pronounces her diminutive "My-na".
