The Man From Beyond screening at Lewiston Public Library, March 24

The Lewiston Public Library near Niagara Falls, New York, will celebrate Houdini's birthday on March 24th with a screening of The Man From Beyond. The screening will take place at 7:00pm. There was mention of holding a seance as part of the evening, but I'm not sure if that's still part of the plan.

Of course, Houdini shot the climax of The Man From Beyond at Niagara Falls in May of 1921. I recently took a look back at that shoot HERE.

The Lewiston Public Library is located at 305 South 8th Street Lewiston, NY, 14092. For more information visit their website or Facebook page.

  1. This movie seemed to be his call to the belief in reincarnation.

Was he serious, or was it a publicity ploy.

Surely he had to know, especially in those days, it could be controversial.

Oddly he also had a lot about reincarnation in the press book to The Grim Game, which had nothing to do, I believe, in reincarnation. I do not think he even had much control over the production. (Paramount Pictures... as Famous Players-Lasky Corporation)

    1. Houdini's interest and belief in reincarnation was for real, IMO. It's amazing how it isn't in any biography, but when you start doing primary research, it's everywhere. I'll be posting a remarkable interview with Houdini from 1918 tomorrow. While it doesn't go into the subject in detail, it is mentioned in passing that he discussed reincarnation.

  2. Although the Grim Game didn't have anything to do with Reincarnation, the Reincarnation Article in the Press Book actually got used and published in the Newspaper: http://harryhoudinicircumstantialevidence.com/?p=1743
I also find it interesting that possibly his beliefs changed in later years. In the Houdini Souvenir Program – Houdini, A Biography – it states Houdini does not believe in Reincarnation.
Looking forward to the interview with Houdini from 1918.

    1. Really? I didn't know that's in the Souvenir Program. I'll have to check mine out. That's interesting.
