Bess Houdini (played by Kristen Connolly). Photo by Egon Endreyi © 2014 HISTORY |
Kristen is having a breakout year in 2014. Not only did she star in a second season of the hit Netflix series, House of Cards, but she played Desdemona in a stage production of Othello with Blair Underwood, and has just landed a regular role on the ABC series The Whispers produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin TV. No doubt Houdini will help bring her more success. She might even come to rival Janet Leigh as our most famous Bessie.
Houdini is directed by Uli Edel from a script by Nicholas Meyer. The 4-hour miniseries will air in two-parts on September 1 & 2 at 9pm ET/PT on HISTORY.

She looks so stunning.
ReplyDeletePhysically, disregarding her height, Connolly is the closest match to Bess I've ever seen on film. I am very interested to see her performance. And I may be nitpicking here, but am I the only one who thinks her hairstyle here looks more 20's finger-wave than Edwardian up-do?
ReplyDeleteJust out of curiosity, what color were Bess' eyes? I always supposed they were brown, especially after seeing that one colorized photo, but black-and-white stock can play strange tricks; In all his photos, Charlie Chaplin's eyes looked brown, but in real life they were a very dark blue.

A look at her passport should provide the answer. Does John have a photo of it archived here somewhere?
ReplyDeleteI think I've only ever seen her on a duel passport for Harry and Bess. Back then a wife could just be added to a husband's passport, and it doesn't provide information other than her name.
DeleteBummer.
ReplyDeleteBTW, this photo of Kristen was taken on Halloween 2013.
