Perks of accepting Houdini's challenge

Here's an account of a Pittsburgh medium, The Rev. Dr. Alice S. Dooley, who took Houdini up on his $10,000 challenge for proof of genuine psychic ability. Not surprisingly, it didn't go well for the medium. However, Dooley did manage to get an all expense paid to trip to New York for herself and her husband, courtesy of Houdini, so maybe she knew exactly what she was doing (and maybe Houdini did as well).
