Magic Collectibles "Houdini Mania" sale May 18

This Wednesday, May 18, Jim Rawlins at Magic Collectibles will be launching a special "Houdini Mania" sale. From 8 to 10 PM eastern, Jim will be listing a new Houdini item every three minutes. There will be 40 items with prices ranging from $30 to $2900. These will be high quality items, many which have appeared in recent auctions and several that have not been seen before.

All prices will be fixed. No bidding, no buyers fee. Jim promises that prices "will be reasonable and generally lower than the latest auction values unless our item is superior in some way."

Set-up an account at magiccollectibles.com and get ready for Houdini Mania on Wednesday night.

  2. Glad you asked and glad to explain. We are a fixed priced member based site. You must either be a member of the site or shop as a guest. I would suggest going to the site and signing up as a member if you wish to participate in the Houdini sale. It will help to speed your ordering process.

We normally list items randomly but since this was such a concentration of Houdini items I wanted to give the membership a heads up on listing time to be fair with everyone.

To answer your first question yes, it will be first come first served. The first person who puts an item in their cart and goes through the automated checkout process (you must complete checkout to reserve the item) will own it. Once that order is confirmed no other member can purchase it. You will receive an order confirmation from us via email if you are the one to purchase the item. You will also get immediate feedback from the site when your order is complete. Our site show no favorite and is automatic. First person to check out and confirm the order has the item.

Our billing through PayPal is done after the order(s) is placed and shipping calculated (similar to auction house procedures). That means that we can combine multiple items or orders into a single shipment for billing and shipment purposes. Bottom line, don’t worry about how many orders you may place that evening it will all eventually roll into one shipment and one invoice to you.

I would also suggest you go to the “how to purchase” portion of our site if you are not a member or have not purchased from us before. It will walk you through the procedure.

As for previews we have been sending previews to those members who have opted for our newsletter for the last few weeks. I will just say that if you are a Houdini Nut like I am, you might want to check in on magiccolletibles.com on Thursday evening!

  6. We will be listing 43 items on Wednesday night. It will be one about every three minutes. It takes about 20 seconds to load your cart and confirm an order if you are signed in as a register member (membership cost nothing: it is just to get shipping information etc. just like on any other site). The items will be well distributed throughout the night with the more rare items evenly distributed over the two hours. My suggested is if you want an item place it in your cart check out, confirm and move on. There should be plenty of time between items.

  7. I see this as an exercise in futility.

    1. I think Jim has done a good job of answering our questions. If you don't think this is going to work for you, then don't participate. I can see how this is going to be tricky. But in some ways, I like this better than an auction situation where I have no hope in landing anything because the prices shoot through the roof. I like the idea of a set price. Also, maybe it's a good thing one person won't have time to scoop up the entire lot. Let's see how it goes.

    1. Ha! I'd love to have that problem. :)

With Houdini, I don't think getting your money back is ever a problem.

  9. How'd Houdini Mania go? I wasn't home so I didn't even get to see what was offered. Any treasures? I see a few nice things still left on the site.

    1. I saw it, didn't see much. Mostly over priced, and not much to it hardly seemed like an event......

  10. Yes I think there were a few bargains in fact. A HH postcard for 250, I also saw a beautiful advertisement item for 250. Should have got that......Still broke from Haversat and Potter though. Could have been more Houdini items.

  11. First of all thanks to everyone who visited MagicCollectibles.com. A special thanks for those who purchased last night and throughout the day today. The fixed price sale is an entirely different animal than an auction. No reason for split second decisions to buy or not. The good news is I do not have customers with buyers remorse because of an energized split second bad decision! The balance of the Houdini items will remain on the site until they are sold. There are over 500 items on our site from posters to ephemera to books and all else relating to magic. Houdini is a small part of that. 99% of those items are owned personally by me (including everything Houdini). I have a huge inventory to list in the future (again Houdini included) so visit our site often. John thank you for your support and what you are doing for magic and us "Houdini Nuts" (you know who you are) with this Site.
