Here's a remarkable and well-made compilation of the oldest film footage of New York City. This is Houdini's New York, and in it you'll see several locations that played important roles in his life, including the massive Hippodrome Theatre, the Battery, Coney Island and Times Sq. Enjoy.

I enjoyed this a lot.
ReplyDeleteGreeting from Texas!
This is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Houdini's New York, here's an assemblage of photos of New York in that time that one guy made into a sort of Google Maps for that time and place:

I wish there was a Houdini's New York DVD. The host would travel to the various locations that HH frequented:
ReplyDelete1. 278
2. The Shelton Hotel
3. The McAlpin Hotel-site of many SAM celebrations
4. Machpelah
5. The East Side Apartments where HH lived
And Richters, Mrs. Lefflers, the Elks Club ...so many NY locations. A DVD would be great.
