Your tour of 278 is coming this weekend
I'm home from New York and working hard on my post about visiting Houdini's house in Harlem. I'm aiming to have up this weekend. (I've also been helping the New York Post with a piece that will also run this weekend). I know everyone is eager for this one, so thank you for your continued patience. Soon you will be turning the door knob and stepping inside 278 yourself.

Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update, is that the original knob?
ReplyDeleteI believe it is. Much of the house still has original fixtures, wood, etc.
DeleteOpen Sésame !!
ReplyDeleteThe anticipation grows.
Notice the decretive plate by the knob is upside down.
ReplyDeleteIn order to put in a more modern lock, Rose was told that
was the only way to keep the original hardware.
Jon Oliver
I was wondering about that. Thanks Jon.
DeleteThe horizontal keyhole on that modern lock does look peculiar.
DeleteIf the HH front door opened in reverse, how would the current upside down position of the lock be explained? When was the door restored to a normal door. I saw metal coverups on the door molding where the original reverse hinges could have been.
DeleteYou are such a tease ... ;)
ReplyDeleteNot teasing so much as much as begging for time and understanding. This post is a monster, but I think everyone will dig it.
DeleteCannot wait for this, been hoping to see something like this for years now! Take your time, I'm sure it will be well worth the wait, and thank you
