A new edition of the Walter B. Gibson classic Houdini on Magic has been released in Italy. The cover features Houdini's Prison Cell and Barrel Mystery poster art (which was also just used on the large print edition of the Joe Posnanski book).
This isn't the first release of Houdini Il Mago in Italy. The book was previously released by Editoriale Corno in 1977 (below).
Houdini Il Mago can be purchased at LibroCo.it.
Thanks to Arthur Moses for the alert!

You know--Walter Gibson is the gift to magic and Houdini that just keeps on giving. He continually regenerates decade after decade.
ReplyDeleteThe image on the bottom cover is the same image that's on my Houdini coffee cup from the Houdini Historical Center in Appleton, purchased in the 1990s. When you fill it with a hot liquid, the bonds and ladder disappear. Magic!
ReplyDeleteSeems as if this poster is the "hottest" image out there in recent years. How many are around and what can I buy one for?
ReplyDeleteI don't recall ever seeing one come up for auction.
DeleteThe hottest image in recent years? Milbourne Christopher used this poster as the cover image for his 1976 Pictorial History book.
DeleteIt has become "hot" in that you see it used a lot these days. It's because the NYPL has uploaded it to their digital collections, so it's available for use and a great image. This cover is using the NYPL art for sure.
DeleteYes Leo, What is your point? The hottest image in recent years. Glad Christopher used it 44 years ago. Image has been seen in the film Burt Wonderstone 7 years ago, and has been utilized as cover art for two editions of Houdini publications in the last 60 days.
ReplyDeleteMy point is that this image was already eye catching and used as cover art 44 years ago.
