October surprise
I'm very excited and honored to be featured in the October 2020 issue of The Linking Ring, the official magazine of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM). Considering I can't do a single magic trick, making the cover a major magic magazine seems like some kind of accomplishment! The profile inside is by magician and magic instructor Tom Interval and is an expanded version of the profile he did on his Houdini Museum blog in 2016. The cover photo was taken by the talented Athena Stamos.
This issue also contains my 2019 post about Houdini's 1915 straitjacket escape in Los Angeles. So it's an overall nice October Houdini issue!

John -
ReplyDeleteI see the same "mischievous, impish facial expression" that Houdini also displayed, from The Grim Game...when he was locked in handcuffs at his office, and he momentarily looked directly into the camera.
Congratulations!
Oh, we should have staged one to match that! :) I originally cupped my hands like Houdini does in all his cuff photos, but Athena said the extended fingers looked better.
DeleteI like it. Congrats John!
Deletecongrats, my friend!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteCongratulations and did you get out of those Darbies?
ReplyDeleteBarely! They are now pretty old and I've not put them on in years. They didn't open so easy!
DeleteWow, great pic and cover. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ron M!
DeleteYou don't have to be a conjurer to get on the cover of a magic journal. I've seen cover photos of well known scholars and collectors like Bob Lund.
ReplyDeleteWhew! ;)
DeleteA well-deserved honor. Congratulations, John!
ReplyDeleteThanks Chuck!
DeleteVery cool John. Congrats.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amazed and confused!
DeleteWell done John, I look forward to reading this when my copy arrives in the UK
