Today I'm thrilled to reveal my original Houdini window card. This advertises his "3 Shows in One" in Providence for the week of October 4, 1926, just three weeks before his death on Halloween. To the best of my knowledge this is the latest and therefore last known piece of Houdini street advertising. The fact that it uses Halloween imagery has always struck me as eerily prophetic.
This window card is one of several that were discovered inside the walls of a house in Warwick, Rhode Island, late last year. It was restored by
Poster Mountain and framed by
Allan Jeffries Framing. What a journey!

Wow! Awesome! Congratulations. The symbolic links to Halloween make it all the more special.
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous. And you got one with the October booking instead of September – it was waiting for you!
ReplyDeleteYes, I love that this has the Oct 4 date. BTW, that is a paste-over. All the Oct. 4 headers are pasted over the original Sept 20 printed headers.
DeleteI also have one of the white style cards with the Sept 20 date in pieces. Saving my pennies to have Poster Mountain work their magic on that one as well.
John,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful restoration! And its a great selection of color and framing. Welcome to the "exclusive" club and enjoy it forever.
