The March 1943 obituary of Bess in Genii Magazine is a heartbreaking read. I mean REALLY heartbreaking. She was in the hospital before heading out for that fatal New York train trip. Flying back was out the question, she was too frail. The Larsens visited her in the hospital and she held on to Gerrie Larson's hand for 30 minutes, promising them she would return to California by July.
