Houdini had planned to play his "3 Shows in One" for two weeks at the Garrick Theater in Detroit. His second week would have commenced on Halloween. He would then have traveled to Cleveland and the Hanna Theater for a one-week. That was the next stop.
Until now, that was as far as we could go into a future that never was. But I've now discovered that after Cleveland, Houdini was booked to appear in Toledo, Ohio.
I've shared details of where, when, and what replaced Houdini on my Patreon. So click below and journey to the next, next stop.

That photograph of HH wearing the coat looks to me like his Washington DC trip in February 1926. It's all there: The coat, the train, the hair.
ReplyDeleteThere's something about this photo that makes me think of the final days.
DeleteLook at the photo of Houdini standing outside of the White House. The coat, tie, and hair are identical:

You could be right. I'm just talking about the vibe from the photo.
DeleteThe eyes on both of them are identical:

Looks much older than his 52 years.
ReplyDeleteYou got that right!!!
DeleteThere was one good thing about Harry. He knew how to pose for a photo…. The best I’ve ever seen. Even when he looked 75 years old.
ReplyDeleteHoudini's youth seemed to drain from him after his mother died. This and a life of constantly pushing himself HARD 24/7 led to him looking much older than his 52 years.
ReplyDeleteOr could it be he was very ill for longer than we think leading to the events that occurred mid to late October 1926?
It's speculated in Silverman that he may have been suffering the beginnings of appendicitis before the Whitehead punch. I read somewhere that appendicitis is not common in middle aged men. It usually happens in younger years like the early 20s.
DeleteI had glimpse of what Houdini went through during his final month.
DeleteI was not feeling well for quite a while. Then early last year I developed a fever and the very next day a “touch” pain on my lower right side. Went to my doctor who sent me to an emergency room. That very evening I was operated on for a ruptured appendix. After 4-5 days on antibiotics I left the hospital and am fine today. The point I wanted to make is in my situation my infected appendix kept “defusing” into my colon prior to bursting destroying a good ten inches of it. The photo of my colon/appendix immediately brought to mind Houdinis doctors comment that his appendix was a “long affair”. I’m thinking Houdini had a diffusing infected appendix for a while prior to the week before his death.
Wow, what a story. Glad you are okay! Also very interesting insight into what might have been happening with Harry. Thanks.
