Wonderful history and tour, if not sometimes sad to see the condition it is in now. The same fate and (sometimes successful) attempts to save/preserve these classic venues has been happening across the U.S. as well.

This hippodrome was not on the same scale as the NY Hippodrome correct? It appears quite smaller.
ReplyDeleteMuch smaller. But the NY Hippodrome and this Hippodrome were not connected in any way. There were many "Hippodromes" that used the name in the way we'd use "arena."
DeleteThe Milk Can and the straitjacket for this 1909 appearance in Hulme. Then again in Charlottesville 1924 for that lecture. The bread and butter material never got old.
