Dunhill's Harry Houdini Commemorative Pipe

If I smoked, I would smoke a pipe. And if I smoked a pipe, it would be this one! Famed pipe maker Dunhill has crafted a special pipe commemorating Houdini's 150th birthday. Breathe in the details below.

Dunhill Harry Houdini Commemorative Pipe
In 2024 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of entertainer Harry Houdini they released a special book edition pipe. A forward leaning dublin shape with an eye catching diamond shaped shank. The tamper captures in fine detail the bust of Harry Houdini wrapped in chains descending into a trademark milk churn. As this quaint pipe is not one of Dunhill's regular production shapes, it does not feature a traditional 4 digit code. The base is stamped with a 4 in a circle, indicating it's group 4 size. The collectable set is completed with a leather bound book case and a certificate of authenticity.

You can buy Dunhill's Commemorative Harry Houdini pipe at Smoking Pipes.com (this is the pipe pictured above). I also see a different pipe style at Goodfella's Cigar Shop, so you might want to investigate before buying.

  1. Harry never smoked, so products like these are associated to him in name tag only. Like the kitchen tools sold in box stores with HOUDINI stamped on them.

    1. Harry’s ghost is not gonna be happy. 😬
Anyone else sang Happy Birthday to him in the kitchen on the morning of his birthday? I did! Proudly! 😊

    2. I don't put this in the same category as the kitchenware. The kitchenware doesn't mention the real Houdini at all. It just lifts his familiar name for their own junk. This is a commemorative piece that honors Houdini and a specific moment in his history. I like these. And Houdini's dad smoked a pipe, so...

    4. And honestly with the design of the pipe I like it. It’s just Harry didn’t smoke so it’s kind of off putting for me. LOL

    5. My Houdini bottle opener is very well made. And his name on it gives it cache.

  3. How quickly we forget...

Page 53 of "Houdini's Tour of Australia":

"As Houdini waited for final preparations to be made, he smoked a cigarette".

    Has this been disproven?

    1. I'm not sure where that comes from. Likely a newspaper at the time. The line that follows is: "This was highly unusual for Houdini, and indicated that he was nervous."

I think the burden for proof for something like this on the person making the claim. It's not on us to disprove it. But I don't find it impossible or even unusual that he might occasionally smoke (or have a drink). Pat Culliton says he sometimes smoked a cigar.

    2. I'm not buying the smoking allegations until I see a photo of him with a cigarette, pipe, or stogie in his mouth. I think HH did own a pipe that sold at an auction from a descendant, but I suspect he had it as a keepsake. According to Gresham in his HH bio, he occasionally had a beer with his assistants who did drank.

    3. Are you thinking of the cigarette holder that belonged to his brother Bill? Pic here. Bruce Averbook owns this today.
