No escape

Here's a fun one that's new to me. I'll let it speak for itself.

Bangor Daily Commercial, Sept. 27, 1921.

By the way, $12,500 is the equivalent of $197,646 today. Maybe the three of them could have worked something out!

  1. This is what happens when you become a film star and world famous. Bob Dylan was right when he said: "Obscurity is a blessing."

    1. He was getting fan mail from as far away as Japan.

    2. I think I read about that in the Houdini biography I got. The fan from Japan was complementing on his handsome nose. Honestly I love his nose too. It’s so cute! ☺️

    3. I read a letter from a fan in South Africa in the HRC. It's great. Part of it reads:

"When I start thinking of you during lessons at school I can't work I get so excited and funny feelings run through me and the teacher gets so cross. But I can't help it it's your face and your top lip that's to blame, they're so lovely they haunt me."

    4. Oh my gosh yes! I can relate! It happened to me at work. My coworkers saw me blushing and could tell I was daydreaming about him.

  4. The Japanese fan letter from Y. Hasegawa, on page 235 in Silverman:

"I am one of the most admirers of you. Charmed by your excellent art with a lovely face."

    1. I remember it being a Japanese fan writing it after they saw one of his movies. Haldane or The Master Mystery or something.

    2. The global distribution of The Master Mystery I'm 1919 exposed Houdini to the Asian market. It was shown in China, Japan, and the Philippines.

    7. What better way to actually finish The Master Mystery to make it into a Japanese anime? 😂 my art style has influence from it, but it’s not exactly anime. I also can’t animate either.

  5. The closest thing we got to a Houdini anime is that animated French movie of a young version of him. I’ve been trying to find it for a while and it looks so good! The art is gorgeous! A bit of steampunk influence as well from what I can tell. It looks like a Studio Ghibli movie a bit which I’m absolutely sold on! ❤️
